Juan Cabanela's Informal Homepage

Don Juan. The name generally evokes a picture of a virile, dashing, insatiable gentleman, irresistable to females, and punishable only by the supernatural. Complete with swarthy complexion, alluring wardrobe, and oh-so-phallic sword at his side, he swoops down upon females like some predatory eagle, smiling as they swoon with passion, and laughing as he takes his flight again. He lives from day to day for the pleaure of his conquests, and is never to be denied. (The above is from Ann Feeney's Comprehensive Project at Carleton College, 1991)

Real Description

The photo to the left is my wife and I the summer before we were married (Summer 1995). Here's a couple of my physical attributes that the picture doesn't show.

Other, non-physical attributes:

Life Status: I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Minnesota State Univerisity - Moorhead .

Marital Status: Married to Ms. Catherine L. Owen Cabanela (Photo of us to the right) since Friday, April 19, 1996! Wow, over a decade now!

Children: I am the proud father of twins. Zakari William (Boy) and Carolina Rosa (Girl) were born on October 23, 2002. And although they were 9 weeks premature, these kids are thriving, as evidenced by the photos we have placed of them online. On the non-human front, I have a 15 year-old cat named Ditto.

Research Interests: My research has mostly focused on using large astronomical catalogs to tackle interesting problems in extragalactic astronomy (and now Galactic astronomy). A full blown statement of my research interests is online.

Works I have authored:
I finished my Ph.D a few years ago. Other writing related to my research is linked to from my online Curriculum Vitae! For over a decade I have also maintained the Contacting the Congress website, which I am proud to say is one of the most extensive sources on contact information for Congress available anywhere on the internet. On a less serious note, a night of stress relief several years ago resulted in the following paper on Momentum and Collisional Energy Considerations of Cryogenically Stored Twinkies (R) Finally, I didn't author the content of the missing Star Trek: The Next Generation Script or Cosmopolitan's Guide on How To Make An Impact On A Man, but I did convert them to Web Pages when I was experimenting with HTML in 1995.

Hobbies: When I am not near my office (Hagen Hall 307B) at Minnesota State University Moorhead , I can be found doing research (sometimes at home), helping Catherine take care of Zakari and Carolina (the vast majority of my "free" time goes here), walking, reading, or a variety of other bad habits.
