Origin of Name/Origen del nombre: Zakari is the Basque version of the English "Zachary" and pronounced like that name in English. No one in either family has to our knowledge had this name. Zakari’s middle name comes from that of both his Grandfather and his Uncle and several other members of Club Owen./ Zakari es la versión Euskera del "Zacharias" y pronunciado como ese nombre en Inglés. Nadie en cualquier familia ha tenído este nombre (a nuestro conocimiento). El "William" viene de el de su Abuelo y de su Tío y de varios otros miembros de la familia Owen.

Brief Biography / Breve Biografía:
Zakari was born at 2:05 in the afternoon via Caesarian with Apgar scores of 8 and 9 (at 1 and 5 minutes respectively). These very good scores, especially for a baby at 31 weeks gestation (I have it on good authority that only OB/GYN’s kids get 10s. :) ). He was immediately rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where he was evaluated. Zakari was placed on a CPAP machine to keep his lungs inflated when he exhaled. He was never put on assisted breathing. He was also given a gavages tube through his mouth to his stomach. It was quickly determined that Zakari needed to improve his lung function, and so he was given the enzyme Surfacant (sprayed into his lungs), which is actually used in everyone lungs to keep the airsacs functional, if I understand correctly. In any case, since then he has been progressing nicely. He developed jaundice in the second day of life and was placed on light therapy. As of today, he is breathing room air without a CPAP and he has "lost" the IV, getting all his nutrition (breast milk and preemie formula) through the gavages tube (which is now going down his nose into his stomach). He is very beautiful./ Zakari nacío a las 2:05 de la tarde vía cesariano con las cuentas de Apgar de 8 y 9 (en 1 y 5 minutos respectivamente). Estas cuentas muy buenas, especialmente para un bebé en la gestación de 31 semanas. Le llevaron inmediatamente a la centro de medicina intensivo neonatal (NICU) donde lo evaluaron. Zakari fue colocado en una máquina de CPAP para mantener sus pulmones inflados cuando él exhaló. Nunca le pusieron en la respiración asistida. Origin of Name/Origen del nombre: Carolina is the Spanish version of the English "Caroline". It is correctly pronounced "Care-o-leena" in roughly phonetic English. No one in either family has to our knowledge had this name. Carolina’s middle name comes from that of her Grandmother.

Carolina was born at 2:06 pm with Apgar scores identical to her twin brother. Like, Zak, she was immediately rushed to the NICU where she was evaluated. Carolina was also placed on a CPAP machine, although it turned out that while she had to work hard initially to breath, she was doing better than Zak and so no Surfacant was necessary. Other than this, her progress has been roughly parallel to Zak’s, except that she developed her jaundice a day later and went off the IV a day sooner (mostly because she was no longer accepting the IV). She is also very beautiful./ Carolina nacio al las 2:06 pm con las cuentas de Apgar idénticas a su hermano. Como Zakari la llevaron inmediatamente al NICU donde la evaluaron. Carolina también fue colocada en una máquina de CPAP, aunque resultó que mientras que ella tuvo que trabajar inicialmente a la respiración, ella hacía mejor que Zakari y así que no habia necesidad de usar Surfacant. Con excepción de esto, su progreso ha sido paralelo a Zakari, excepto que ella desarrolló su ictericia al día despues y salió el intravenoso un día más pronto. Ella también es muy hermosa.

Funniest Moment to Date / El momento más divertido hasta ahora: She is definitely runner up for the fastest nuk/pacifer sucker on the Eastern seaboard./ Ella es definitivamente uno del los lechónes más rápidso en la costa este del EE.UU.
