Having Fun in Spain

First of all, an apology to those folks who noticed the “comments” on my site linking to less than child oriented webpages. I have been the victim of “comment spamming”… a technique used by the slime of the world to have more sites “linking” to their own so that their ranking increases in Google. Needless to say their comments have been nuked and the commenting system has been turned off for now.

Second of all, an update on our trip. The kids adjusted fine to the time change, but had a bit more trouble with a virus that gave them a fever and Carolina even got a rash. We went to the hospital in Cruces and got checked out by their top notch pediatric staff. They advised us it was likely a viral infection and informed us of how to deal with the fever and what to watch out for that would imply it was dangerous. We needed to buy Children’s Tylenol which was about $3 for a “huge” bottle! Then Cat got sick and I took her to the hospital at Gadakano. Less great service (we were warned about this because it wasn’t pediatrics, they are a little more relaxed), but they did do x-rays, blood work, and a fairly full exam (I was in the room to translate, and it seemed fairly through). They scared us a bit telling us it “might be mono” but they did the blood work and gave us a negative test a few hours later (I called in for the result, we were at the hospital about two hours). We purchased the ibuprofen and some stomach protection (in case of upset stomach… total out of pocket about $5). I have to say, this “socialized” medicine is not such a bad thing sometimes. It did finally hit me (Juan) yesterday, but it was mostly fever and extremely bad pain in my muscles. One ibuprofen and I was able to operate again. We are all doing better now and are about to leave the Basque country, where my Mom’s family is from, for Galicia, where my Dad’s family is from.

I did want to post a few pictures. First is a picture of the twins playing with Mikel, their Spanish cousin. They will have another Spanish cousin by October, when Mikel’s brother, Julen, will enter the world if all goes well.

All the cousins playing

The next two pictures are of Carolina and Zakari in their favorite passtime here. They love going to the plazas and playing in the big jungle gyms here. They especially love the “toboganes” aka slides. Carolina has learned how to climb up the ladders as necessary to go down these “toboganes!” It took Zak and extra day, but he now also handles the ladders with ease!

Zakari, King of the "Tobogan"

The final picture is of Mikel, my nephew. This kid is two years old and full of energy. He does a lot of cute things (and some not so cute)… this is a picture I caught of him looking through the wall at the top of a jungle gym at his “Tio Juan”:

Bill, Carolina and Zakari’s Grandfather, found a picture of Dorothy Owen, Bill’s Aunt (and Catherine’s Great Aunt), who was born in 1925 and passed away at age two. The resemblance to Carolina is rather astounding. /

Bill, el abuelo de Carolina y Zakari, encontró un foto de Dorothy Owen, la tía de Bill, que nació en 1925 y murío a los dos años. La semejanza a Carolina es algo interesante.
