This page will contain hyperlinks to sites containing information that may be of interest to Physics 342 students, none of this material will be required for class, although of course, some of this material may contribute to your knowledge of physics in general.

| New York Times (Science Section) | August 15 | Web Page | Since most "main stream media" publications don't have journalists specializing in science (the weather forecasters on TV don't count), its nice to point out a publication that does. In fact many science stories you see tend to be newswire stories based on articles in the New York Times. |
| Science News Online | August 15 | Web Page | This is a science news magazine aimed at the general audience. It carries stories from all areas of science, not just physics. |
| APS News | August 15 | Web Page | This site contains the bi-monthly publication of the American Physical Society. The current issue requires a subscription, but access to back issues is free. |
| AIP Physics News Update | August 15 | Web Page | The American Institute of Physics Physics News Update is a digest of current physics related news. Its is available for free as an email via an RSS newsfeed. I have also added the feed to this class' Current Articles page. |
| Physics Today | August 15 | Web Page | This monthly journal (which every member of the American Physical Society or American Astronomical Society recieves) is available online. Many of the articles are available for free from the web site. I have placed Physics Today "News Picks" on this class' Current Articles page. [Full Online Access Available] Full articles more than one year old are available online (but only from campus) through the Livingston Lord Library Website. Just click on A to Z E-Journal Directory and enter "Physics Today". |
| ArXiv | August 15 | Web Page | This is the commonly used preprint server for many areas of physics and astronomy. "Preprints" are typically articles that are intended for peer-reviewed journals but haven't gone through the process yet. The preprints are all free and you can sometimes find preprints of articles that have since been published in non-free journals. Unfortunately, there is no review of the articles submitted and some speculative or non-scientific works does sometimes end up here as well as some articles that are destined to appear in peer-reviewed journals only after major revisions to correct inadequacies. |
| Physical Review Online Archive | August 15 | Web Page | Also known as "PROLA", this site contains all issues of Physical Review and associated journals. Searching is free, unfortunately accessing the articles is not. [WARNING] "Physics Review" (which is available through the Livingston Lord Library Website) is not the peer-reviewed journal! |
| Astrophysics Data Systems Abstract Server | August 15 | Web Page | The "ADS" allows searching of most peer-reviewed astronomy and astrophysics related journals over the last century. ADS can also search PROLA and ArXiv if you ask it to. [Full Online Access Available] Most astronomy-related articles more than 3 years old are fully accessible for free. |
| American Journal of Physics Online | August 15 | Web Page | These sites for the peer-reviewed AIP journals allow you to search for free, but unfortunately, the articles are not free online. However, Dead tree and microfiche versions of these journals available through the Livingston Lord Library. [Full Online Access Available] Full access to the articles from campus computers should be available shortly (we have purchased it, the paper work is still being filled out). |
| Physics Teacher Online | August 15 | Web Page | |
| The Journal of Young Investigators | August 15 | Web Page | The JYI is a peer-reviewed journal run totally by undergraduates and covering scientific research carried out by undergraduates. It tends to be more readable than other peer-reviewed journals. [Full Online Access Available] It appears all the articles are available freely online. |
| Google Scholar | August 15 | Web Page | To quote, this service "provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations." I sometimes use it when I am searching outside of my field of expertise. |
| RefWorks | August 15 | Web Page | If you are on campus, you can have access to RefWorks, which is a site that you can use for bibliographic management and for online database searches (although the searching appears to be a bit iht or miss). |
