How to Pass Introductory Astronomy
Roughly 10% of introductory astronomy students fail the course for reasons that have little to do with their intellectual abilities and much more to do with lack of organization. In an attempt to help the disorganized, we are providing this checklist of things you must do in order to pass this introductory astronomy course.
- First Week Checklist
- Make sure you are registered for the lab portion of the course as well as the lecture.
- Bookmark the assignments page on our Course website at http://astr104.cabanela.com/ and look there weekly for links to assignments, post-labs, project deadlines, and everything else you are required to do for the course!
- Sign up for Mastering Astronomy during the first week of classes!
- Pick an Observing Project from
the Astronomy 104 Course Activity Manual and Sign
Up Online to do the project by Friday, January 23.
- Sign up for the Field Trip online
by Friday, January 23. Then,
attend the Field Trip.
- Finish the Observing Project by the deadline assigned.
- Attend Labs and finish the Post-Lab exercises after the
labs. More than 3 unexcused absences from lab results in an automatic
failure of the course. No makeups will be considered.
- Attend lectures and participate with the PRS clicker system. We check participation, not correctness of the answers.
