Astronomy 102 Gradebook

Last Update: Thursday, November 19 at 4:39 PM

Changes made in last update: Updated to include both midterm exams, all homework, post-labs (including field trips), participation grades, and observing projects for Planetarium sessions 1 to 4 through Friday, November 13. We have also added your percentage of possible homework, post-lab, participation, and midterm points that you have gotten and used it to compute a crude projected grade at this point.

To access your gradebook entries, enter your modified Dragon ID (MDI). Your MDI consists of the last 4 digits of your Dragon ID plus the middle initial of your name (if available). Try first with the middle initial. If your gradebook doesn't come up, try just the last 4 digits of your Dragon ID. If it still doesn't come up, check with your lecturer.

Notes about your Grades

  • PLEASE LET YOUR LECTURER KNOW IF YOU SPOT AN ERROR IN THE GRADE BOOK.

  • Projected Grade: Since we haven't graded all the observing projects yet (nor the final few labs and homeworks), the following assumptions were used in estimating your final grade in the course.
    • The grading is based on the grading policies outlined here. However, we did not include the observing project in calculating the grade, yet.
    • We assumed you would get the same grade on the final exam as the average of your two midterms.
    • We did drop the worst post-lab and worst two homeworks from the grade computation when listing the percentage of possible lab and homework grade that you got.
    • If you have missed attending more than 3 labs without an excuse (that is if you missed 4 or more labs), you have failed the course and your projected grade is listed as ZERO.

  • Participation Grades: We list two participation grades. The "raw" grade is simply the fraction of lectures we have a record of you participating in. The "grade" is the grade you will get for participation based on the participation grading scheme outlined here.

  • Labs Scoring:
    • If you had more than 3 unexcused absences from lab activities (including the field trip), you will have failed Astronomy 102.
    • If you didn't attend a lab or field trip according to our records, your lab grade will be listed as a "N".
    • If you were excused from the lab or field trip, your lab grade is listed as an "E".
