Astronomy 102:
Solar System Astronomy

Fall Semester 2009

Craig Lecture MidTerm #1 Results

The MidTerm #1 Solution Key can be examined online.

The 113 people who took the first Astronomy 102 midterm got an average score of 35.5/50 (corresponding to a C) with a standard deviation of 8.0. The high score was 48.75/50 and the low score was 13.75/50. For determining grades, I assumed a score of 48.75 was 100% on this exam.

Key to Understanding Your Individual Results:

  • MC: This is your raw multiple choice score (out of 24 possible)
  • Essay[1-3]: These are your 3 short answer questions scores, each out of 10.
  • Total: This is your total score computed as 1.25 times your multiple choice score plus your two best short answer scores.
  • Grade: The corresponding estimate of your exam grade.
  • Rank: Your class rank on this exam (1 = best score in class)
  • Percentile Rank: This one is your percentile score, revealing what percentage of the class had a score lower than yours (this is like the SATs).
  • Incorrect Responses: This is the list of which multiple choice problems you did not answered correctly. We provide this to you instead of returning the scantron sheets.

To access your individual results, enter your modified Dragon ID (MDI). Your MDI consists of the last 4 digits of your Dragon ID plus the middle initial of your name (if available). Try first with the middle initial. If your score doesn't come up, try just the last 4 digits of your Dragon ID. If it still doesn't come up, check with your lecturer.
